Chocolate mendiants were traditionally made during the Christmas season and featured nuts and dried fruits, such as raisins, hazelnuts, figs, and almonds. These days you’ll find them year-round and may include seeds, fruit peels, and more..
Here’s what’s so great about mendiants:
• You can customize the chocolate, toppings, even the shape (like if you want special heart-shaped mendiants for Valentine’s Day).
• There are endless combinations of chocolate and toppings.
• No baking required!
• You can make them exactly the way you like.
• Making mendiants is a fun group activity.
• Mendiants make lovely “thank you chocolates” for hostess, birthday, anniversary or holiday gifts.
• They taste so good!

Ingredients
150g Vegan Dark Chocolate
50g Pistachios
50g Almonds
1 or 2 tbsp Orgeat Syrup
50g Caster Sugar
Preparation
Preheat your oven to 180°C.
In a small container, mix together the pistachios, almonds and aquafaba then add the caster sugar. You should get a sandy texture
(Transfer the pistachios and almonds coated with sugar to a baking tray lined with baking paper and leave to dry in the oven for about 5 to 8 minutes.
Take the pistachios out of the oven and let them cool.
Cover part of your work surface with baking paper.
Using a tablespoon, make little tongues of dark chocolate.
Arrange four pistachios or three almonds nicely on each chocolate.
Leave to set for a few hours before biting into these delicious chocolates.

You could also use some dried raisins, cranberries, candied orange, hazelnuts, dried raspberries… And you don’t have to coat you nuts in sugar, even if it makes those mendiants very fancy!!! You could also use other types of vegan chocolate: vegan “milk” chocolate, vegan white chocolate, vegan hazelnuts chocolate, vegan caramel chocolate…)
